A-W sends three girls to state track meet

The Akron-Westfield girls track and field had three members earn a trip to Des Moines for the IGHSAU State Meet at Drake University on May 22-24.

Kaberlee Fairbanks and Gabby Koch both qualified in the high jump and Tess Frerichs earned her trip in the 200-meter dash.

A-W baseball begins 2025 season

The Akron-Westfield baseball team opened the season with an impressive 8-2 win at Woodbury Central on May 20.

Will Hartman pitched six strong innings, striking out 10 while only allowing three hits and no earned runs.

A-W boys golf headed to state

The Akron-Westfield boys golf team earned a spot in the Class 1A State Tournament by finishing third in the district tournament at Willow Creek on May 19.

A-W girls golf team rolls to state

The Akron-Westfield girls golf team made it look easy as they earned a trip to the Class 1A State Golf Tournament by winning their regional by an impressive 14 strokes at Primghar Golf Course on May 21.

Tess Frerichs and Kaberlee Fairbanks and Gabby Koch are headed to the IHSAA State Track and Field Meet in Des Moines.

A-W boys finish fourth in conference meet

The Akron-Westfield boys golf team finished fourth in the War Eagle Conference Tournament held May 12 at Willow Creek Golf Course.

Jackson Neubrand led A-W with an 80 to finish sixth in the meet.  Tatum Wilken shot 87 and was 21st, followed by Braydon Kusler and Matthew Swancutt who both shot 91.

A-W girls golf team wins conference meet

The Akron-Westfield girls golf team won the War Eagle Conference Meet by 13 shots and had four players finish in the top 12 at Willow Creek Golf Course on May 13.

Westerners win first in distance medley at MMCRU

The 1600-meter distance relay team of Connor Harvey, Adam Brown, Reegan McKee and Noah Boie won first place at the Jack Foresman Relays on May 12 at MMCRU.

Koch wins conference title in high jump

Gabby Koch picked a pretty good day to set a personal record. The Akron-Westfield junior won the War Eagle Conference title with a personal best in the high jump with a leap of 5-00 on May 5 at West Sioux.

Small, McKee lead A-W at conference meet

The Akron-Westfield boys track and field team finished seventh in the War Eagle Conference Meet held at West Sioux on May 5.

The 4x800 meter relay team won second place, and a duo of Westerners earned top five finishes in individual events.

A-W boys golf rolls past George-Little Rock

The Akron-Westfield boys golf team recorded the five lowest rounds of the day as they beat George-Little Rock by 37 strokes in a conference match on May 5 at Otter Valley Country Club.

A-W girls golf wins pair of matches

Peyton Vander Helm earned medalist honors to lead the Akron-Westfield girls golf team to win over George-Little Rock on May 5 at Otter Valley Country Club.

A-W boys golf team drops a pair of close matches

For the second time this season, the Akron-Westfield boys golf team lost a match by less than five shots.  The Westerners fell to MMCRU 165-161 in conference dual at Marcus Golf Club on April 22.

A-W girls golf remains undefeated

The Akron-Westfield girls golf team continues to play consistently as they picked up their third win a row by beating MMCRU on April 22 at Marcus Golf Club.

The Westerners won 196-215, making it five straight matches with a team total under 200 as they picked up a 19-stroke win.

A-W girls track wins Hawk Relays

The Akron-Westfield girls track and field team earned four first place finishes in the Lady Orab Invitational at Sheldon on Aprill 21 to help them finish in the third place in the team standings.

Fay wins discus at Hawk Relays

The Akron-Westfield boys track and field dominated the relay events and Jordan Fay won the discus as the Westerners earned a second-place finish at the Hawk Relays in Hartley on April 25.
