On September 19, the administrator of the Akron Care Center (ACC) Patricia Raasch submitted her resignation to the ACC Board. Raasch resigned of her own accord and the board accepted the request, looking to the future.

Correction regarding happenings at the Akron City Council

Last week in our article on the Akron City Council, a statement was read during the meeting that claimed that the Akron City Clerk was behind on financial reports regarding the Akron Public Library. Due to the audio from the meeting getting compressed during transfer, I mistook the statement to be about the Library Director being behind on the reports.

Plymouth County Museum hosts Log Cabin Day

Full of food, fun, and entertainment, the Plymouth County Historical Museum in Le Mars hosted its annual Log Cabin Day Sept. 23. Log Cabin Day honors the museum’s two log cabins located on the museum’s lawn - Joy Hollow Log Cabin and Weber Log Cabin.

Akron-Westfield School District recently welcomed Jessen Hessler as the A-W Risk Coordinator, a position with a focus on enhancing student well-being, improving academic achievement, and fostering a safer and more nurturing learning atmosphere for all enrolled students.

Akron Fire-Rescue held a very successful Open House Oct. 1 at the facility along Highway 3. 

Peyton Nicholson and Carter Wilken were named Akron-Westfield Homecoming queen and king at Coronation held Sept. 28. Josie Smith and Ashton McCully were named first attendants. In the front are A-W crown bearers kindergartners Case Schoenfelder and Kayghen Morehead.

Teenagers from Akron’s First Baptist Church attended a Youth Rally hosted by Bible Baptist Church in Brookings, South Dakota. The event, held over the weekend, offered a day of faith, fellowship and enjoyment.

Fundraising campaign underway for building

About 100 Legionnaires and Auxiliary members will be arriving in Akron the evening of Oct. 6 to attend the American Legion Ninth District Fall Conference, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 7.

Double feature fall fun will be coming to the Plymouth County Historical Museum in Le Mars this Saturday, Sept. 30, when a Le Mars author and veterinarians of Plymouth County are in the spotlight at the Museum’s Study Hall.
