On Dec. 10 each year, Nobel Prize Day is celebrated to honor the prestigious awards created by Alfred Nobel. These awards recognize outstanding contributions in various fields, including Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature, and Peace. In 2000, a prior Akron resident was awarded a Nobel Prize for his chemistry achievements.

Since the early 1990s, the Akron-Westfield School and Immanuel Lutheran Church have received annual donations of handmade mittens. Joy Dirks, currently 89, was born and raised in Akron and has been hand-making mittens for the youth of the Akron-Westfield community since 1992.

The Akron Area Museum's traveling history trunk found its way to Akron Care Center on Nov. 25, where museum operator Carol Brown displayed a plethora of antiques and historical pieces to the residents.

November is identified as National Pet Diabetes Month, an important initiative to increase awareness among pet owners and veterinarians about the impact of diabetes on our furry companions. This month serves as an opportunity to educate pet owners on preventing diabetes through proper diet, exercise, and routine veterinary check-ups.
