With only four days left before Akron-Westfield Community School’s prom, community members perform a tragic accident rescue. It’s in an effort to save students’ lives during Prom Night activities. Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for 15 to 20 year olds, according to Event Coordinator Brent James of Akron. In 2006, there were 3,490 drivers killed and another 272,000 people in this age group nationwide received injuries. Twenty-fi ve percent of those drivers killed had blood-alcohol-content levels of 0.08g/dL or greater, and 77 percent of those killed were not wearing seat belts. In nonalcohol related automobile accidents, the A-W community lost one Class of 2007 boy last May, and one senior girl and one sophomore boy were injured in separate automobile accidents in the past two months.
