Pelicans sighted south of Akron

Wednesday morning, April 8, several pelicans were sighted at Lake Pearl south of Akron. How many of you have heard the “Pelican Poem” written in 1910 by Dixon Lanire Merrith. Merrith was a Southern newspaper editor and President of the American Press Humorists Association. He wrote this limerick: A wonderful bird is the pelican. His bill will hold more than his belican. He can take in his beak food enough for a week. If you know how the poem ends, stop in at The Akron Hometowner, let us know, and collect your prize. Prizes given out until gone.
