Akron on Business Spotlight Watch KTIV Channel 4 Friday, May 25 at 9:47 a.m. for the Siouxland Business Spotlight which will feature Sue Higman and Meriele Wilmot promoting Akron's City- Wide Open House. Blood Bank The SIouxland Blood Bank will be in Akron Friday, June 1, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First National Bank for a community blood drive. Quasquinews Men don't forget to begin growing your beards for the Quasquicentennial beard contest. Several options are available for food stands during the Quasquicentennial celebration. Contact SherriMcKee, 568-3100 or 565-2252, ASAP if you are planning a stand or would like a stand. Food stands are open to anyone or a group who would like to raise some funds. The history book committee is still accepting histories through June 16. Drop them off at City Hall or The Akron Hometowner.

Tracksters do well at state track meet
The six members of the Akron-Westfield track team, who qualified for state, represented the school district well at the state track meet in Des Moines May 17-19. Placing the highest for the Westerners was Kyle Groon, placing third in the long jump with a jump of 20'5.75. The first place jump was 21'4/75. Kyle also finished in 17th place in the high jump with a jump of 6'. Next highest was Shelby Johnson who placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 114'7. The first place throw was 117'2. Kalen Kluender ran the 400 hurdles in 58.94 which gave him 18th place out of 24. Jordan Harris ran the 400 meter hurdles in 1:07.78 which gave her 11th place. Karly Groon jumped 4'10 in the high jump which gave her 13th place. She also ran the 100 meter dash in 13.72 which gave her 20th place. Tana Colt ran the 3,000 meter run in 11:37.70 putting her in 22nd place.
