Karen and Steve Iseminger of Westfield are the owners and operators of Edecen Financial Services in Akron. The business is in the old medical clinic building at 300 Reed St.
Edecen Financial Services opens on Reed Street By Julie Ann Madden It's not a typical business in the sense that customers will stop by to shop when they are in downtown Akron. But it's a service that many will indirectly use to purchase items such as vacuum cleaners, water heaters and home theatre equipment. Edecen Financial Services works with direct sales distributors from around the United States. The distributors' normal office operations are done through Edecen Financial Services' computer network. The sale (of an item) starts the process, explained company president Steve Iseminger of Westfield, adding in our world, 67 percent of the sales are financed sales. Once a distributor makes a sale, they call Edecen Financial Service underwriters who decide whether to take on the risk of purchasing the customer's loan contract from the sales distributor. If Edecen Financial Services purchases the loan contract, they become the contract servicer -- they arrange for the customers to make payments and disburse the payments to the sales distributor, plus make collection calls, if needed. Since October, Edecen Financial Services has been supporting the distributors' network and this month, they will begin purchasing loan contracts. One of the advantages of having Edecen Financial Services in Akron -- is the revenue the business generates comes to Akron from other areas of the country We're bringing in fresh money, said Steve, and it benefits the Akron-Westfield community -- the other businesses, the school. In an agreement between the Isemingers, the City of Akron and Iowa Department of Economic Development, this business will provide at least 20 jobs. We are making a commitment to Akron, said Steve, and we are going to take part in the events and do things here to try to help the community. We're here as yes, we're going to make a living at it but we want it to benefit everybody. Bring in new jobs, new families, help the community grow, added Karen. Edecen stands for education, economic development and entrepreneurship.
